Solve My Cube

3x3 and 2x2 practice tool

Cube Scramble Generator

Generate a fresh 3x3 or 2x2 scramble, copy the moves, and use the 3D player to apply every turn correctly.

Generate a cube scramble

Choose a cube size. Each click creates a new practice sequence in standard cube notation.

How to use this cube scramble generator

Choose 3x3 or 2x2, then select New scramble. Keep one face pointing toward you and one face on top while you read the sequence from left to right. Changing the whole cube orientation midway can produce a different state.

If a turn is unclear, use the 3D player below the sequence. You can play the full scramble or move through it one step at a time before copying it to your practice notes.

How to read cube scramble notation

The letters U, D, R, L, F, and B name the up, down, right, left, front, and back faces. A letter by itself means a clockwise quarter turn while looking directly at that face. An apostrophe means counterclockwise, and 2 means a half turn.

To study notation beyond a single scramble, paste the sequence into the cube algorithm player. It can replay the moves and help you inspect each turn on a larger 3D cube.

3x3 and 2x2 scramble lengths

This tool creates 20-move sequences for 3x3 practice and 11-move sequences for 2x2 practice. Consecutive moves do not repeat the same face, and 3x3 sequences avoid placing consecutive turns on the same axis.

These lengths make casual practice convenient, but sequence length alone does not make every cube state equally likely. Official competitions use dedicated random-state scramblers and published event procedures.

Turn a scramble into a focused practice session

Generate a scramble, apply it carefully, then open the online cube timer. If you get stuck or suspect the cube was scrambled incorrectly, use the 3x3 cube solver to enter the colors and check the state.

For useful comparisons, keep the cube size and timing method consistent across several solves. A short set of carefully applied scrambles is more useful than a long session with orientation mistakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cube scramble?

A cube scramble is a sequence of turns applied to a solved cube to create a mixed state for solving practice.

How long is each scramble?

The generator uses 20 moves for 3x3 and 11 moves for 2x2 practice sequences.

Are these official competition scrambles?

No. These are convenient random-move sequences for everyday practice. Use an official event scramble and procedure when competition rules or comparable results matter.

What do the apostrophe and 2 mean?

An apostrophe means turn the named face counterclockwise. The number 2 means turn that face 180 degrees.
